WORLD’S EASIEST AND BEST SOURDOUGH BREAD, the 1-2-3 method

World

This is the World’s easiest and best Sourdough Bread! Would you like to make crispy, crunchy sourdough at home, just like they make in Paris or San Francisco? Impossible you say? What does this have to do with Sherlock Holmes? Well, you must “Eliminate the Impossible.” You can make the world’s easiest, and best, can’t fail, one-bowl, no-knead sourdough at home. I’ll show you how using the 1-2-3 method. Ready? (you won’t even have to write this down to remember it!)

First, wash your hands. Sourdough starters are living organisms and you have to be careful with them. Now, the only three ingredients you’ll need are water; flour and salt! (oh, and sourdough starter, of course…). You can make your own sourdough starter at home, or you can buy one from good baking stores. Each time you take your sourdough starter out of the refrigerator, you will see a thin layer of grayish-brownish liquid. This is normal, and you must stir this back in each time you use it. Ceramic jars seem to be best, and you don’t want a tight seal on the lid. I always put a clean plate out to hold a clean spoon and a clean measuring cup. Avoid contaminating your starter with anything or it may die. Each time you’re done with a utensil, put it back on the clean dish only. With a clean measuring cup, put one cup of starter in your bowl, then time to feed your starter. You must feed your starter every time you use it. Use ¾ of a cup of non-chlorinated water. If your tap water is chlorinated, you must let it sit out in a pitcher for at least 4-8 hrs before using it or it may kill the organisms. Next, add almost one full cup of flour. You must keep your sourdough starter very thick: somewhere between pancake batter and toothpaste consistency. And don’t let the level of the starter get too close to the top of the jar or it will bubble over. (you can use your starter once a day (or even every 8 hours) but you should always try to use it at least once every few weeks. Even if you don’t make bread, take out a cup and feed it at least once a month) When you are done, let it sit on the counter for at least 4-8 hours, then put it back in the fridge. Now are you ready for the recipe? Here it comes:

1 cup of water; 2tsp of salt; 3 cups of flour

  1. I found this years ago and never officially gave it the credit it deserves. This video was a great beginning to a great journey in breadmaking. Thank you it is hysterical!!! It is also a great tribute to Jim Lahey and the best of all the other videos I have seen inspired by his methods. Thank you thank you thank you! Wicked hot. One more thing though? Now I realize I must have your sourdough container. Where can I get one?

  2. Made this recipe. Crumb looked good but crust was not crispy and bread was quite sour, possibly due to all the starter. Moving on to a different recipe.

  3. Oh my gosh, that last bit of the video really is twisted. Creepy voice and more weird flashing pictures.

  4. What were those flashes of pictures unrelated to the subject at hand?. Who is playing that supposed piano music and why?. Is this supposed to be some kind of "creative ", abstract, video?. It also sounds like your In a hall of some kind, did you use the piano in your local church or community hall?. Definitely some interesting choices but too distracting for my tastes albeit informative.

  5. OUCH!!!! Please get rid of the music! and the creepy stuff and the echo. It is very loud and distracting. Otherwise, it's a good video.

  6. This is so weird but also wrong! When you shape the dough you need to prove it again to allow the dough to rise or you get a brick. Notice how she/he didn't show a crumb shot.

  7. You just ruined my interest with all the flour you folded into it. I’d rather put in the time to make a better loaf.

  8. Turns out Alfred Hitchcock is alive and well and directing cookery videos! This video is BRILLIANT – thank you.

  10. You fed the starter after you removed the 1 cup for baking? So the dough mix has unfed starter, correct? Most recipes use fed starter.

  11. Okay this has to be one of the best videos on how to make sourdough bread. However, your music person really made it impossible for me to listen to. It sounds as if a child was promised they could provided the back ground music, while mom did her cooking video.

  12. ACTUALLY I THOUGHT THE VIDEO WAS VERY CREATIVE,AND ENTERTAINING. WHAT TIME CAN I CHANGE TO GET A SOFTER BREAD? I FOLLOWED EVRYTHING AND IT WAS TOO CRUCHY ON THE OUTSIDE. THANKS JIM C

  13. Do you let your 3 yr old play the piano while you make bread? Like the piano is a baby sitter? Its awful!!! Really weird!!!

  14. did you leave at 500 the whole baking time how did you manage to not have the bread stick to the pan 🙂

  15. It may be easiest but I’m sure it’s not the best. I like a better rise and I use the same 4 ingredients.
