He stayed cool and calm which in turn made the robber keep calm, robbers usually start blasting when they get scared or angry, he realized Tony wasn't trying to be a hero, he just wasn't trying to be a victim either and it worked…. that being said things could've gone pretty bad for him so yeah, just comply or get the gat depending on how you roll.
