World’s 1st Rifled Slingshot (Made from Huge PVC Sewage Pipe)

This might be the final frontier in slingshot technology: Giving a slingshot projectile a spin, comparable to what a rifled barrel does to a firearm bullet.

That challenge has been presented to us here at The Slingshot Channel many times, but so far it seemed impossible. The obvious method, twisting the bands, typically leads to disaster only (“return to sender” shots).

But then, the spark of inspiration stroke. What if the whole slingshot is rotated around, with the ball always perfectly centered? So a slingshot crossbow was built inside of a big PVC sewage pipe. That pipe was then clamped in between 8 wheels and put on a table – then, the whole thing is turned by means of a power drill and a rubber tube, 420 times a minute (7 times per second).

The whole thing is successfully fired in this video. While it has to be determined in the future wether or not the turning has a positive impact on the flight of the 20 mm steel ball, it seems certain that it has no apparent negative effect!

A glorious moment in the history of this channel, slngshots, YouTube, the internet, and mankind. 🙂

A “The Slingshot Channel” production.

  1. I was thinking: lead on the string could rotate and the pipe could be riffled and cut in half, maybe the friction of the shot would made the ball spin when guided on those rails…

  2. I'm revisiting this idea, mine doesn't spin the slingshot nor will it be nearly as powerful as yours. Rubber bands and 3d printed components, cut a slit through a rifled barrel, printed rounds that fit inside the rifled barrel just so that the rifling engages. It's a fun concept so why not?
