Will The U.S. Remain The World’s Leading Economy? | The Bottom Line

World

Economists believe the U.S. could lose its ranking as the world’s leading economy in the 21st century, as measured by gross domestic product. But the U.S. is set to extend its run through the 2020s, on the back of slower-than-expected growth trends in China. Investors are now placing fresh bets on emerging markets as the working-age population booms in the Indo-Pacific.

  2. CHINESE DENG!! "It doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice." Economics is the key to success not military…The Soviet Union tried to match the United States dollar for dollar and failed miserably!! I know our supreme leader will get many policies WRONG!! But as long as we work UNITED!! 1200million Chinese citizens waking up 6am and working until 8pm…..six days per week!! I know we can BEAT the UNITED STATES ECONOMY by 2030.. I know United States citizens are more technologically advanced than us’ BUT are they willing to work 12hours per day 6 days per week?? China 🇨🇳 us’ Chinese Children are still behind!! US can produce 2nm chips … we Chinese scientists can only produce up to 6nm…BUT I can assure our fellow country men and women we are working 120hours per week to bridge the gap between 🇺🇸 and 🇨🇳!!!

  3. WOW, the difference between number 1 and 2, and the rest of the world is scary. . China has 5 times the population of the United States and less billionaires. US gdp per capital is not higher than China, that is one of the nonsense our people keep spreading. How many people makes $76,000 in this country a year? More than 80% of the work force in the United States makes less than $50,000 a year. Plus, Chinese people have more money saved than us here in the United States. From my prediction, China will over take the United States in terms of GDP anywhere between 2026-2028. In 2-4, you can come here to criticize me or prove me right. India can never be a peer competitor of the United States or China in terms of economic activities. India doesn't have the infrastructures.

  4. China said many times, they don't want to replace the US. That's not their goal. No country this century will be number 1. We are in a multipolar world now, and that's how it's going to be for now on. US no longer has the power it once had, sanctions are becoming more an more useless as time goes on.

  5. Depends on how you define economy. If you measure in purchasing power, China has passed US since 2014. China has been the top producer of the world for a decade. But if you add all those financial speculation, US is still ahead of the game. Luckly, the world still uses US Dollars so the financial game is productive.

  6. Of course. It is about to headquarter the Western clean energy transition in the United States.

Why do you keep citing that worthless and evil hack Jeffrey Sachs who lies about the United States systematically, is anti Ukraine, and has a poor record?

  7. thought for a short while china was coming ahead but in recent years they are showing they are slowing and becoming a victim of their own dictator freedomless society protocols. compared to china the u.s has a very stable government despite in the past 50 years with reckless spending i don't see asia beating north america in economic prosperity

  8. No one expected China will obtain full cycle of high-end chips production. Now they have their own DUV 28 nm machines which was unimaginable. SMIC working on 5 nm chips on ASML DUV equipment. Dominance of Chinese EVs. That's what matters
No one thought China will overcome USA in 2020s. It was 2050 always as estimated date.
China has 40% of rural population. It's enormous source of future growth.
This episode shows how frightening for Americans Chinese World's Leading status is.
    It's like antemortem muttering.

  12. I am not from the US, nor do I live in the US, but I do want to add my opinion; I remember perfectly back in 2007-8, the consensus was that China was to surpass the US economy sometime between 2017-2020, it didn't happen; then the consensus was that it was going to happen surely before 2030, it won't happen; now, the consensus is saying until 2040. Maybe it will happen, I don't know; but my point is, never in history has a declining country have so much data of the big picture; what I mean is, that the huge availability of the macrotrend information is allowing countries, and in this case, the US, to actually do implement programs to avoid what seemed to be inevitable
