Wild Sunset Continues To Push World’s Best, Men’s Quarterfinals Locked In \ 805 Post Show Day 2

World

Only eight remain after a wild Day 2 unraveled at the famed Sunset Beach with a difficult lineup challenging competitors’ ability to adapt and read ever-changing lines. Dominant showings from Jake Marshall, Jacob Willcox, and Frederico Morais in the Round of 32 alongside hefty upsets gave way to world-class duels in the Round of 16. Rookie sensation Willcox stormed into the Quarterfinals over one of Oahu’s own Seth Moniz, Kanoa Igarashi notched one back over fellow Southern California rival Griffin Colapinto, plus Liam O’Brien shut down Ethan Ewing’s electric run to move into the Quarterfinals. Now, the men are ready to battle for the 2024 Hurley Pro Sunset Beach title when they hit the water. Tune in for the holiday free surf tomorrow, Monday, February 19.

Since it hosted the first Championship Tour event ever in 1976, Sunset Beach has long stood as an old-school test of power surfing. And while timeless rail-to-rail surfing still dominates, a new school of surfers is beginning to redefine the wave with a more modern approach. Who will win out, and who heads to colder waters on a hot streak?

  1. Looking at the highlights and listening to the scores it's unbelievable how some surfer's are scored high for mediocre moves.

  2. I think Slater's 360 should have given him a much better score. Bad judgemanship on my opinion. I'm not much of a Slater fan like i use to be.
    Peace up from Bkk. Thailand.

  3. When are they removing Sunset from the Tour? Most boring event ever. Hawaii has better waves than this.
