Why Istanbul Is The Most Strategically Important City In The World

World

Istanbul is the most strategically important city in the world. It’s located on one of the busiest waterways in the world, the Bosporus straight, which links the Black Sea with the Mediterranean, and a land route between Europe and Asia.

Notes about the names of Istanbul:

During the Ottoman Empire, the people of the city would call it Istanbul, while the government still referred to the city as the Turkish variant of Constantinople. The city’s official name was not changed to Istanbul until Turkey became a republic.

Byzantium was refereed to as the New Rome until after emperor Constantine’s death, when it became Constantinople.

  1. I disagree
-'The black sea argument is very overrated most black sea countries apart from Russia are poor so its kind of irrelevant.
    -Istanbul suffers from earthquakes
-Most ships need to pass trhough Greek waters anyway to pass through Istanbul

  2. Halifax would rank alongside Istanbul as one of the world's most strategic cities.

While Halifax is much smaller than Istanbul, the Atlantic Canadian city is a crossroads between Europe and Pacific North America.

Its said that he who controls Halifax controls the North Atlantic and possibly the world.

  4. hasn’t really been important in decades, ever since air travel became huge it has been just a shipping bottleneck since the importance was lost as it could easily be bypassed by armies

  5. I look forward to seeing the city restored to Hellenic rule, and the holy cross returned to Hagia Sophia.
