All this talk about COIN is pointless. The problem with Israel is that we assume that they share the same goal and values. They do not, never have. We are intentionally asking the wrong questions because we know the answer is untenable. Biden didn't answer the question because he knows his answer is horrific, there is no way to package it. Report after report from the UN, NGO, journalist are screaming the answer.
Vance didn't make a cogent argument. The minimum conscription age was just lowered from 27 to 25, so of course the average age would be far above that. Most of the money "sent" to Ukraine is to purchase way more expensive replacements for the used gear sent there. It's a modernization program for the US military. That Jake Tapper didn't push back is perhaps understandable, but how is this podcast not?

From someone outside the US, the Joe Biden we saw in the debate looks too old, but also basically like the same Joe Biden we saw in the 2020 primary debates. I heard you guys say basically the same things about Biden in 2020 after the first primary debate, that he was too old, that he lost a step, that he couldn't win, that he couldn't be an effective legislator, that he needed to step down from the race for his own legacy, almost word for word what you're saying now. He's certainly whispery-er now than before, but the same gaffs, stumbles, tangents and rambles as 4 years ago.
The only shocking thing to me, is that you're having this conversation again now. You could have had this conversation 18 months ago when the primary process started, but basically none of you did. So the primary voters voted, they chose Biden again, and now you're trying to throw out that election because you don't like the outcome. From the outside, it's really undermined the credibility of you guys and the Democratic party as a whole to try to force Biden out of the race because you didn't like the outcome of the election.
16:10 J.D. Vance on Ukraine. Making absolute sense about ending the war in Ukraine because it's killing them and destroying their country. Well, as close as his offensively sick American-centred world view can ever GET to sense. His argument isn't that Ukrainian death and destruction is a bad thing in and of itself, but that it will eventually cost the US even MORE money in addition to that already poured into weapons for the war. And of course, just as in Gaza, it is NOT the responsibility of the US to end the death and destruction. Merely to stop facilitating and prolonging it.
Ben Rhodes and Tommy Vietor have both been pushing this war as hard as they can since its commencement. Their response to Vance is a weird mixture of personal criticism sprinkled with admissions that his argument makes sense.
I strongly object to ceasing to prolong the war indefinitely being characterized by Ben Rhodes as "cutting off Ukraine". I also object to his idea that the US should be deciding the terms on which Ukraine gets to end the war.

Ben! You're really letting me down as my go-to expert on foreign policy. JD Vance's argument about Ukraine is moronic (for many reasons), but he's using b.s. to forward his pro-Russian position. He's saying the average military age is 43 as though all of the young people are gone. The average soldier's age is older because the minimum age for conscription was 27 (now 25) to protect their young people. They don't want to come out of a war having lost the generation that needs to rebuild.
The average person doesn't understand this, so we need experts like you to correct the b.s. these lying, pro-authoritarians spread and set the record straight.
These guys are so woke that they instinctively say "sex-workers" rather than 'hookers" when recounting that infamous SS scandal. His data is misleading. The reason the Ukrainian age is higher is because Ukraine has a higher age of service to begin with and many younger Ukrainians are exempted.

The most tone deaf wedding ever was the Gupta wedding at Sun City outside Johannesburg, South Africa. The plane containing guests from India landed at a South African airforce base, which is supposed to be a highly protected area and so none of the "tourists" went through Customs. The entire party was escorted by a South African Police motorcade to the venue approx 100 miles away. It turns out the cost of the security and the entire wedding at Sun City was funded by the South African government, at this time under President Jacob Zuma. I don't have to say that we have a high level of unemployment and poverty in this country. The money has not been repaid, nor anyone convicted. The Guptas have not been extradited from Dubai (UAE), despite a world wide treaty to end corruption signed by both countries (RSA and UAE). You don't want an autocratic leader, believe me.
