2050 will not have large infrastructure revolutionized, it can only have some advanced technologies applied in limited areas, it is just impossible to invest so much money without enough profits for investors.
The world is over-populated if everyone wants to live like Americans in suburbs and commuting to work in large vehicles, flying everywhere in inefficient aircraft etc.. Only if people are willing to live in high density areas and walk or use a bicycles and wear a sweater in winter instead of cranking their heat up to over 70 F is there any hope to solve the energy crisis. However, climate change and wars will cause so many disasters that technology will not solve it. I think we are heading for a mass extinction.
