The AN-94 might have been more reliable than the AK-74 during the trials, but thats because they were testing new rifles. In a long term AN-94 is definitely not going to be as reliable as the AK-74 with so many moving parts.
It is a fantastic piece of engineering, and would probably work great as a spec ops rifle in an urban environment, where after each hostage rescue operation, or terrorist liquidation, the rifle can be properly cleaned and seeviced. However, you dont want to use these in prolonged fights, the ones that we see in Ukraine for example.
It's like a F1 car, has its purpose and place, but it is not replacing your Toyota Camry.
