The Next World War | Episode 9 | Blood, Fire, and Fury

World

Russian and NATO forces collide in the Baltics where hopes are shattered and new technologies bring new perils. The Next World War is a documentary series that takes a terrifying and realistic look at a hypothetical Third World War scenario.

Creator notes and commentary:

First, a thank you to Ian Brown, creator of the wargame, Maneuver Warfare, for giving me insight into the challenges of the modern battlefield. His game can be found here:

The Russian UGVs shown in the episode were actually theoretical manned APCs within the ARMA3 game platform. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a mod out there of a large-scale UGV that fit the need, and I did not want to use the same UGV for both sides. So, I improvised.

Lastly, please keep in mind that the equipment, “actors”, uniform rank, etc., in my video may not be perfect. Though I try to get it right, sometimes there isn’t a mod or 3D model for what’s needed. Or, I might get something wrong. I’m a One Man Show here and I’m doing my best, so I ask for some grace. That said, if you see something that I might be able to address in future episodes, let me know. Constructive criticism is ALWAYS welcome.

  2. I have to say this series is well done. It's not really realistic for today's scenario but it IS realistic enough and true to the storyline they set out. It feels like the pre-Russian Ukraine war scenario and flows like it too if it had gone differently. Very enjoyable! It's also interesting to see how real NATO's response differs. There is a LOT more rapid response troops and assets than in this scenario. There are also now hardened borders and prepared defences. We also know Russia has a pretty solid war time economy, but also had chosen to use quantity over quality again with a heavy reliance on artillery and slow advances.

  3. Until the author starts letting the tactical nukes fly, this is not accurate. Medvedev and Putin have both threatened nukes in the event of Russia vs NATO.

  4. This episode puts on display again the lethal brutality of war. Lots of people are shown die in these military maneuvers. Fires and wrecks now scar once pacific villages and towns. What a horror.

As for the plot, we have to hope that the Americans quickly arrive with the bulk of their forces. The NATO troops present so far are providing a very strong resistance, thanks to their advanced tech as well, but it seems that sheer numbers are still in favour of Russia.
Also, wouldn't this be a good moment for the Polish army to make their move?

  5. As one who lived in Latvia during the collapse of the SU, and spent a lot of time up and down the Daugava River, I find the accuracy in this portrayal far beyond what one might expect in a " game ".

  7. As an army veteran these videos are both awesome and terrifying to me. I spent my last couple years in an airborne brigade that was on NATO IRF (Immediate Response Force) for this exact situation.

Poor little darlings, made a whole series and released them 1 a month.
How it must hurt for reality to show how far of the mark you are!
