It's a deep history and just one of the uses of amber in ancient times was as a fire starter. Amber burns, as it burns and more of it melts the fire will just keep increasing. Given the battle damage visible on the castle and then the possible torching of it after, I've always felt the amber room burned. If that's true then nothing would be found of it after a fire bad enough to destroy an entire castle.
