The Drax Files World Makers: Stories from Second Life

World

In the digital universe known as Second Life, a vibrant global community transcends boundaries of cultural, ethnic and generational nature: with unlimited possibilities to explore, make or sell anything one can imagine, stories of individual empowerment abound.

“The Drax Files: World Makers” has been profiling the creative individuals who shape Second Life with their ingenuity and passion via mixed reality video mini documentaries since early 2013.

Entrepreneurs, game designers and fashion aficionados, musicians, artists and social-issue activists are featured here with often very personal tales: for these pioneers virtual reality leads them on a transformative journey, as real as the experience they create and share.

Their avatar is not a pixelated fantasy but a true extension of their inner self, an identity of their own choosing eager to explore and able to express itself in richer ways than possible in the physical world.

  3. The second life is more than a game. It has opened my life to new possibilities. I actually make program that work to connect second life and web sites. I have a disability called Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. I can basically only move my fingers, but in second life my physical condition does not matter.

  7. Second Life has wonderful potential, I think. It's a game where you can do anything, or be anyone. It has such a terrible reputation though. They try to bring in artists and designers, but the adult market is so big

  8. none of this content is actually made in Second Life. You need to spend thousands of dollars on software like Photoshop, Maya, Adobe Premiere, and audio editing tools, and have the training to know how to use those applications to create things to be uploaded into Second Life. Then you have to lean SLS which is a scripting language that lets you do quite a lot but it is complicated. But again none of the things you see in this video is easy to create, and SL has a huge learning curve most people abandon after a couple weeks.

Besides most people use SL for the virtual sex. If you wanna be a wizard, play an RPG.
