  1. My sister has always had Akitas. They have all been amazing dogs, well socialized and dog friendly. They’ve been gentle giants.

  2. It is never Nurture Versus Nature but a varying combination of both. That experiences fluctuations- from moment to moment.

  3. At some point we have to bring in restrictions for such dangerous animals.
My only interaction with an Akita was with a German Shepherd cross. It attempting to eat an old ladies Shih Tzu, out of her arms. Understandable she was screaming for help. I distracted the big boy, and ripped of my belt. Lassoed him and then didn't know what to do. Luckily a few neighbors came out to help, the old dear left in a hurry. Some huge bloke grabbed the dog of me, threw him in the back of his car and said "I'll go to local vet."
Big doggie had probably never been manhandled in his life, old mate slammed that rear door so fast I actually don't know if doggo got docked.
What a monster. So I went home with three bags of groceries and holding my pants up.
It could have gone a lot worse.

  4. I really love you for you care and affection… when you have those big eyes, with the slight hesitation with the death blower,,, as if you are concerned for your life, but at the same time would prefer to groom the most dangerous animals in existence.

  5. A friend of mine had a male Akita. Everything was fine till 1 Christmas morning when their son reached for a Christmas present. Within a blink of an eye, their akita had grabbed their son by the neck.!! He broke the skin, and they got rid of him the following morning.

  6. He's such a gorgeous, sweet bear of a dog! We adopted a 4-5 year old American Akita when I was a kid, and while yeah he would guard the house and yard, he'd mostly sleep all day and we kids could sleep and use him as a pillow. Another boy we had twice nipped at kids who got in his face, but that was after they'd been warned not to shriek around him, or move too quickly, and he never broke skin, and we could even play he'd bite at my arm, but just to hold it like I'd hold his tooth and it was a game to him. They're territorial, but also smart and if you know the dog and their boundaries, they're the sweetest teddy bears who know their own bite strength. We had three total from when I was a kid up until I was 24 and I miss them all.

  7. How stupid you have to be to put dogs so much in font of the camera, that they always appear a lot bigger than she is.

  8. My grandparents had a few American Akita, and they loved nothing more than to escape out the front door and play with all the neighborhood kids.

  9. If there was an Akita with a husky-like temperament it would be one of the top breeds people would want. Just imagine a bear-dog with the goofy husky personality 😍😍😍

  10. I’ve had Akitas and I’ve never had an issue with them. I raised mine to enjoy kids. They can be intimately, but it didn’t take long for people to realize that mine were lovable.

  11. I feel that it is on the owner if the dog is nice or aggressive. Just my opinion, he seems very sweet. But I agree that what you said about the breed is so true.

  12. The wrath of Khan? The bath of Khan? Glad you avoided gaffes with Khan, I wouldn't have wanted to see the epitaph of Khan, and/or you. 😐

  13. I had a friend who raised Akitas and had one. Dude used to want to take it literally everywhere, the lake, the beach, hiking up rocks (i literally helped him lift up his 100+lb Akita up rocks), the store, dog parks. Then he would act pressed when other people brought their dog around his, like bro, you're the one who wants to take the damn dog to every single public space.
For people who don't know, when people say Akitas are dangerous, they mean towards other dogs. Do not bring your pets around an Akita, it will die lol.

  14. Interesting. In Australia, where I'm from, we call this breed an Akita and the smaller one a Japanese Akita.

  15. Maybe someone can educate me, but why would an Akita owner think a grooming would be comfortable for a potentially aggressive dog at an older age? Shouldn't grooming have been introduced much younger?

  16. Does anyone else get the heebie jeebies whenever they hear the sound that the EquiGroomer makes??! It's like nails on a chalkboard to my ears hahaha, gives me goosebumps.
