On board the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas

World

The world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, is just 9 days away from carrying nearly 10,000 people around the Caribbean. For comparison, the Titanic was 883 feet long before it sank in 1912, while the Icon of the Seas measures close to 1,200 feet. CBS News senior transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave got an exclusive look at the massive ship as it set sail on a test cruise.

  1. 💥💥Now I never been on a cruise ship, i never wanted to go cruise ship but I do remember hearing a lot of people say the idea of a cruise is to get away from people etc. It seems like these cruise ships now are nothing more than a city that can float.

If I was to go on a cruise ship I would rather go on Alaskan cruise an adult only cruise by the way. I wouldn't want to be on a cruise ship with a bunch of children running around everywhere. You got to deal with that when you back home in the city kids everywhere.

Also to the dumb news lady the Titanic wasn't a cruise ship it was ocean liner🤦🏿‍♂️

  2. Great now the ports are going to be even more packed. Hopefully it doesn’t affect the excursions for all the other cruise lines and ships with that many people. How will there be room or time on the islands

  3. Going on my first cruise with the family in February. I swore I’d never go on one for the past 20 years but here we are. I must admit, I’m kind of excited.

  4. 🤩 Royal Caribbean Cruises (NYSE:RCL) recently upgraded status to “Buy”.

  5. It’s an impressive cruise ship, but I can find countless of other things or travel experiences I would absolutely spend my money on compared to being stuck on a cruise liner.
$100,000 and $40,000 is a HEFTY price to pay when I could find a number of hotels and/or rental homes for cheaper. 🥸🧐

  6. I’m on a cruise right now with explosive diarrhea. I was getting my food for lunch when I suddenly unleashed all over the buffet. It was horrible. I couldn’t contain it. Adults were screaming. Children were laughing. I was so embarrassed I ran out of there leaking all over the floor. I tried to make it to my room but I couldn’t. I had to jump into the main pool just to wash off but more kept coming out. Everyone in the pool scattered like scared cats. Some people started vomiting in the pool it was so gross. I took my pants off as they were ruined and jumped out of the pool to make a dash to my cabin. I didn’t make it far before another round of brown syrup blew right out if my exterior and onto the pool deck all over some sunbathers. Everyone jumped back into the pool to wash off but that didn’t help as the pool was like chocolate. I ran as quickly as I could wearing only my ‘I ❤️ Crusing’ shirt hoping to make it to the elevator. As luck would have it just as the doors opened another shot of sundae topping blew out spraying everyone in the elevator. I finally made it to my door and then suddenly just as fast as it started, it ended. I felt great. So, I decided to head down to the casino instead and played blackjack for a couple hours. Won fifty bucks! Used that to buy a new pair of pants before heading back to grab a bite to eat for dinner.

  7. Things have certainly changed. Cruising use to mean only going indoors to eat or sleep and spending most of your time looking out at the ocean, sunbathing or playing outdoor games like shuffle board or basketball. Now most of the rooms look inwards at the ship’s attractions and activities and you hardly can see the ocean from the ship‘s rooms except from the windows on the observation deck. It’s like mobile phones when they first came out, everyone would talk constantly to each other no matter how close they were to each other. Now they sit next to each other and just texting and not talking.

  10. Yes, you too can be locked into a mall with 10 thousand people for the price of retirement as the homeless veterans wave good luck from their cardboard box shelters.
