World

World record-holding marathon runner Kelvin Kiptum has died. Kiptum was the first man to run the marathon in under 2 hours, 1 minute, in an official race. He finished the 2023 Chicago Marathon with a time of just 2 hours and 35 seconds. Authorities say the runner was in a car crash with his running coach and an unidentified 24-year-old woman. They were in a high-altitude region of Kenya known to be excellent training ground for long-distance runners. Kelvin Kiptum was 24 years old.
