Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in a lavish inauguration ceremony for a Hindu temple built on the site of a 16th century mosque destroyed more than 30 years ago. The ceremony consecrated an idol of lord ram, one of Hinduism’s most revered deities. South Asia Correspondent Avani Dias says it’s also a reminder to many of violent attacks that saw temples and mosques attacked, and thousands killed mostly Muslims.
