Importing Real World Locations Into Unreal Engine 4 – Beginners Tutorial UE4



In this video we take a look at how we can take real world terrain data to generate a terrain that is 1:1 scale and bring it into Unreal Engine 4. We show you the process of using Open Topography to extract data then convert it using L3DT.

We need to be able to import shape file data from roads and rivers, trees … to automate the process of filling in the landscape with real data .. photogrammetry has failed for huge map sizes like this.. and so has Nerf. Even tho nerfs are superior.. there’s just no way to scan/ capture everything when all the trees, power lines are in the way.

  4. so guys in 4.27 I making an open world. I have my persistant and all my sub levels made and placed. however in the 0,0 I added my heightmap but it doesnt give me the option to add a heightmap to my other sub levels. when I click on the sublevel make it current, goto landscape it is like thers already a landscape actor there and give me sculpting options but none for creating a landscape ?

  10. Sorry, but the result doesn't look good. The real island has a lot of almost flat places and in your terrain everything is to exagerated. The height is all wrong. And it's funny because you used such a complicated method…

  11. This isn't working for me. When i download the .tiff from opentopography i get a small 16kb all black image, and when i import it into terreSculptor it's just a flat all black area. Adjusting the properties does nothing.
