  3. There was a 16 year old Australian girl who sailed around the world about a decade ago.

This only a first for the US not a world first.

  6. These kind of stories eclipse anything that's happening in the political world. Amazing achievement made by ordinary people every day should be broadcast to the world. Very inspirational.

  7. Sailing around the world single handed is one thing, Doing it as a race as fast as possible adds so much stress and danger to the trip.

  8. It raises the profile of sailing in the USA, as ocean sailing is treated as an elite sport for billionaires, re the americas cup, European women have done this ad nauseum and set records, in groups and as solo sailors. Great job Carole! Enjoy you new reality and beam with hard earned pride.

  11. Kudos to her for completing the circumnavigation and coming in second.
But I was sorry to hear there was no mention of Kirsten Neuschäfer, who WON the Golden Globe, circumnavigating without stopping and using traditional (not GPS) sailing methods.
