The cast of the groundbreaking show “A Different World” reunited 35 years later and sat down with TODAY to look back on the show’s legacy and profound influence on viewers — and on college enrollment. “We represented all these different facets of young Black life that we had never seen before,” says Cree Summer, who played Freddie on the show.

  2. This show was sending folks college in real life, the enemy saw that n took it off …..just like our brilliant family shows.

While I was in high school, I did not plan to go to college and I remember watching the show, thinking to myself, “that would never be me”but a few years later God made a way for me to attend college and graduate from an HBCU. One of my favorite scenes from the show is the Jesse Jackson speech, “it’s not my aptitude but my attitude that determines my altitude and how high I will go…”

  5. These people here are not just actors they are role models. They were the older cousins, big brothers, big sisters, aunties and uncles who inspired an entire generation to go to college. 🩷
