  1. Thank you for watching the Board Game Nation walkthrough of the Axis & Allies 2023 World Championships – Round 2! What did you think?

  2. Great video, and a very entertaining close game!
Very well played Axis strategy. I've learned a lot watching these. I love the flexibility you give yourselves in the purchase phase. I'm really starting to see how the opening moves do steamroll and determine the rest of the game.

  3. I love the videos, but you can sure see the difference in strategy knowing the game is only going a max 5 rounds. I understand the logistics involved, but it makes online play superior, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to the other rounds and hope your opponents are more closely matched to you guys.

  4. After the first episode and 26:00 min in I knew I had to subscribe. I am really enjoying this you both are great communicators and have good chemistry. And its honestly just fun and easy to watch!

This is such a good video structure for covering a game like this. It almost reminds me of old white dwarf battle reports in structure. If you put more of this out I am sure the channel will blow up! Even if you play games not in a tourney, but cover them like this I would watch.

Thanks for the such well done video!

  5. Great videos…very good quality production, and I really like your comments throughout the video. Quick question, does each player have a set amount of time to take their turn in this championship? If yes, how much time per turn? Thanks.

  6. Brilliant analysis and coverage again guys. Im so glad I found this channel and these videos. Your explanations and graphics are top notch guys. I am also very pleased that you were able to overcome the unlucky battle in Sovient Round 1 and the missed Japanese fighter (I actually think your opponents were a spot mean not letting you have the fighter but rules are rules I guess). Thanks again, Wes.

  7. Why in the world would the UK, on their final turn, attack the german fleet. Why not soften france with everything, no matter the odds?!

    Balas
  8. Not only did they not abuse the missing fighter; they also invested in more AA in india, which presumably they would not have done if they knew it was missing

  9. Excellent video—better than round one with all the early adversity you faced. Those round 1 dice and then the missing fighter BS would have set my blood pressure to "aneurism." Your cool heads and focus on the big picture are why you won. Congrats. Very well played. Looking forward to round 3!

  10. You guys are better people than me. If my opponent won the RNG jackpot that badly in R1 and then refused to fix a mistake they made in setup to my detriment I would have walked. I don't care about any tourney that much.

  11. That missing fighter is very frustrating. This is why judges (and discretion) is important, instead of dumb letter of the law. It's like starting a chess game, and after 2 moves you realize you're missing a rook. Obviously you place the piece, and anyone with a modicum of sportsmanship would allow it to be placed. You had far more grace than I would have had.

  12. It's nice to tell yourself that in the long haul, dices balance out. Sadly, that is not the case. The odds of dice balancing out is…. 50%. The chance that they don't balance out (and may even get worse) is… 50%….

  13. Gents I love this game and don’t get enough time to play it so thank you for letting me play it vicariously through your exploits !!

  14. Unfortunate about the Japanese fighter being missed on setup. I've been in Greg's tournaments since the 90's and every rule has history (reasons) behind it, but most of the longtime players I know would have agreed to place the fighter down if it was missed in setup

  15. I like the idea of 5 rounds in a championship setting.
    Grab those victory cities.
If no one can successfully hold them, then it's a tie and another sudden death round is there for the next to hold that victory city or cities at the end of the round.
The IPC rule after 5 rounds works just as well for a 5 round tournament game.
I think both criteria are valid.
    Strategy in both ways.
I agree that using bombers with fighter escorts can Seriously damage the IPC's of nations especially towards the end of round 5.
    Insult to injuries.
    Great Channel!

  16. These videos are great! I haven’t played A&A in decades (played tons of classic though in the 80s and 90s via live and AOL/PBEM) but watching these is making me want to break it out again! Love the editing and how you walk through everyone, keep up the great work!

  17. Very exciting game! You made a great comeback and came up with good strategies on the fly to reverse the situation on the board. Whilst the Allies were undecided on how to use their units, you cleverly pushed hard for the center and consolidated. Thank you for this lesson in maneuvering!

  18. Great video. What I learned
    1. Check everything in preparation. Then recheck and crosscheck. Sometimes you do need accountants. No point in having a great bid only to lose it all by not checking initial placement.
    2. Be prepared to switch strategy. If crushing India isn't working because India is overdefended then the Calcutta crush IS working but move to their other weak spot now they have shored up this weak spot. Was it 'division of forces' Napoleon called it.
    3. Reduce redundancy of units. Buy it to use it. Everything an aircraft kills points or a tank picks,up free cash it is paying for itself. If it sits somewhere doing nothing it isn't earning any interest on the investment

  19. Your presentation is easy to follow, the narration concise and interesting. Watching this series brings back all the fun I use to have playing the game. I will be looking forward to the rest of your tournament results and how it unfolded! Regardless of the outcome of the tournament, I would enjoy your recreation / commentary on other games (or maybe just a thought for other tournaments if too late for this one.) I know it must be a ton of work, tell your sponsor Renegade Games I've noted their important contribution to content like this.
Thanks for well done effort, you have done YouTube proud!

  20. “The Germans needed to liberate France, and did so with gusto.” I see you surreptitiously invested a few IPC into a propaganda ministry.

    Balas
  21. Another great presentation!

About the game itself, it did seem like the allied player wasted a ton of time and money doing nothing. I would never put land units into England until I had transports protected by aircraft carriers to move them into Europe.

Same with America, he had more guys than his transports could move becaue he never made transports. And his bomber never bombed. Did he forget to strategic bomb every turn?

I think if you had hot dice and your starting Japanese fighter you'd have cleaned this player off the board.

About your moves, the guy into Iceland is a cute move. Have you ever thought about putting a guy into Gibraltar for the same reason, block American air support?
