18 year old males have always been required to register for the selective service. I remember the draft lottery where each year a lottery of your draft order using birthdays was made/ If yours was low, off to Vietnam. The voluntary military did not start until the mid 1070's. Revised law is to register automatically. Now by law you are obligated to register at 18 yourself, usually at the Post Office, or lately online. Dan, you and your son are registered for selective service when you turned 18 by law.

I think you may be wrong.. My understanding is male citizens had to voluntarily register with the selective service all along. The only change is now they are being registered automatically based on information contained in other government databases. They are not drafted, but this MAY be a precursor to a draft for all we know. The new legislation includes non-citizens. Females registering is not currently happening, but is a bill being offered in the US Senate to include females.

As a retired 20 year army veteran with 2 combat tours and a “peacekeeping” mission (Bosnian Civil War 1995), I’ve been saying this the past 18 months and now that it’s happening to everyone’s children and grandchildren to be sent to die in Russia, China or Iran NOW it’s “concerning”! Yes young women will be drafted too even though they say they won’t be (we are severely under strength). Ukrainians are being killed by the Russians at a rate of 1,500 per day (Macgregor, Ritter 2024). U.S. deaths are estimated to be 3,600 per day in Ukraine alone (Macgregor, McGovern, Ritter, Shaffer 2024). Yes folks your children and grandchildren (and mine) have a very great chance of being drafted, deployed, killed and sent back in military zinc coffins or become missing! It’s going to happen I’ve talked to my colleagues still in the military and it’s gonna happen like it or not. Votes have consequences! 🇺🇸
