They are “French fries” because the dominant language in Belgium during WWII was French and that’s when US soldiers discovered them oh and they’re fried. Also where does chips come from? I think crisps for what Americans call chips makes sense but calling fries chips? Never mind just looked it up and British have fries too but they are actually a different shape than French fries they are what Americans like to call steak fries since they are cut similarly to a steak. Also cookie is thought to be from the word koekje which comes from koek meaning cake and was brought to the US and used to describe a small flat sweet cake (cookie). Football in the 19th century and long before that was used to describe basically any sport that involved use of your feet so any form of kicking or general use of your feet which both American football and soccer both had. Football in America originally was just rugby but some people decided to play it a bit differently and made a new but similar game which was just rugby football. But they also have soccer so I believe eventually they just called soccer association football and American football was called well American football. But that’s only IN America other countries don’t have American football and just call soccer, football.
Im British 😂
The french fries and the cookie should be called that but football should be football I’m talking about this one ⚽️
