The presidential immunity decision is no better or worse than when the SCOTUS “invented” qualified immunity for cops.
The 13-year old little boy and his friend fit the description of armed robbers. As they were being detained, instead of following orders, they ran from police with gun in hand they allegedly used in the armed robbery. The little boy pointed the gun at the officers in pursuit. BAD IDEA!!! This was NOT an innocent little boy that the police simply shot without cause, but a 13-year old engaged in "armed robbery". The two boys will be identified as the perpetrators by the victims — case closed. The streets in that town are now safer because there is one less perp on the streets.

Just because a President can't be "prosecuted" if his actions are deemed protected, it doesn't mean there's zero remedy. The Constitution still provides for Impeachment, which was tried twice, ending in acquittal. Watergate taught us that Congress can and will act when presidential actions flagrantly violate the limits of their constitutional authority.
