5 Smallest Things and Man Made Objects in the World – 2016

World

From sculptures so small you can’t see them fully in normal light to motors that can fit inside a human cell we look at 5 of the Smallest Things & Man Made Objects in the World.

Nano Sculptures
The sculptures made by Jonty Hurwitz and his team like this piece called “The Gentle Giant” have now reached such a microscopic scale that they even had to create a new method of filming to show them because they are so small you cant see the fine details with normal visible light.
You have to remember that this elephant sculpture is just 1/10th of a millimetre high and yet you can still see the fine details of the wrinkles on the skin.
This and the other Nano sculptures including “Trust” the worlds smallest sculpture of a woman which is shown standing on a human hair are made using a nano 3D printer technique called Multiphoton lithography…..

Smallest hand made sculptures
Now if you thought that the previous sculptures where pretty amazing then this next one on the list will blow your mind.
Willard Wigan creates the smallest handmade sculpture in the world, figures so small that they can stand in the eye of a needle, in fact the very smallest sculpture he has made is of a motorcycle inside a hollowed out shaft of Willard’s own beard stubble and don’t forget these are made by hand, not by computer or robot or 3D printer but by hand.
These micro works of art sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars and collectors include the likes of Prince Charles, Elton John, Simon Cowell and Mike Tyson……

  1. Given our ability to make small parts (0:08), small computers with wifi (5:22), and small motors(3:40), we have almost all of the technology we need to create artificial immunity.

A drone with a lance floats around the blood stream looking for cells. Scanning each cell, it calls back to base to check if the cell is part of our body, similar to how a cop runs licence plates. If the cell comes back as foreign, it attacks. Piercing the cell kills it quickly, and the drone continues hunting for its next target. If it finds a nucleus with no cell around it, then the drone could attack right away.

Such a technology would allow us to provide some immune defence to people with HIV, AIDS, and other immune-compromised people. Depending on how the genetics work, it may also help with cancer. Another application, changing the list from "don't attack" to "attack" would provide a temporary solution when new diseases come about.

However, given that this tech came out six years ago and nobody has thought of these things tells me that there is probably a reason that nobody has tried it.

  2. There's an old story about a friendly rivalry between American and Swiss engineers where the Americans made the smallest drill bit in the world and sent it to the Swiss saying, "Let's see you beat that." They drilled a hole in it and sent it back.

  3. G'day Paul, who was it that said, "Small things make for perfection; perfection is no small thing."? Well, this video blows that out of the water.
Michelangelo's great, great, great, great, great grandson would only just be making an easily viewed mark on the Sistine Chapel by now if they were using paint brushes made of one insect hair.
Amazing stuff, Paul. Thank you so much. Cheers, BH

  5. This is how they made Joke Biden's earpiece.

Next they need to figure out how to implant a micro-sized device to control his mouth directly so he quits bumbling his words. But the democraps are also gonna need something to block his smell receptors so he quits harassing 8 year old children!

  6. now you know why some people are scared of mass vaccination, while maybe not yet so cheap and fully applicable, it seems to me it's just a matter of years when there'll be a plethora of nanobots, capable of doing god knows what (only bad things if you are not super rich)

  8. Wooow… these are feats of detail and precision (almost) beyond belief. It's amazing how humans can create such wonders through technology, which is a feat of the mind, and physical skill and creativity, wich is a feat of the body and mind. Well… The micro-sculptor, if I may call this artist so, also uses and creates technology, and the scientist and engineers also need physical skill in the process of creating new technology. But … just woow.

  9. I was surprised you didn't showcase the "world's tiniest violin" my uncle kept one in his pocket and would play it whenever I complained. Couldn't see it w the naked eye.

  10. This micro technology is very promising for humankind, in many ways. It could act as a means to cure diseases like cancer. But thinking about how it could be used for nefarious purposes is frightening. This could enable surveillance on an all new level, not to mention provide the ability to potentially use it to harm or even kill people. You can't defend yourself against something so small you probably wouldn't see it, and its size enables it to access more areas that would have otherwise been inaccessible.
